PACS (Personal and Community Safety) offers online and in-person group self-defense classes specially designed for marginalized demographics, including women, LGBTQ+, elderly, and minority populations. Our experienced instructors provide practical training on situational awareness, boundary setting, bystander intervention, and real-world self-protection.
PACS is a project of The Enso Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit cultural and martial arts community space. All classes are entirely free of charge, no matter how you attend.
Jason Mix has been teaching martial arts for over 40 years and has trained over 200 black belts. He is a world-renowned martial artist and regularly teaches internationally. He is a 9th dan black belt in Hapkido and a 6th dan in Tae Kwan Do, with 30+ years training in the internal arts of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and Yoga.
Matthew Amaral is a student of psychology and has been practicing martial arts for nearly 20 years. He has a 4th degree black belt in Hapkido and has taught at seminars across the globe. He currently teaches Hapkido, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and weapons.
Sharon Amaral is a former teacher and East Asian medical practitioner. She has a BA in Social Ecology from UC Irvine and is one of the key organizers of this project. She’s been doing martial arts for over 15 years, is a 3rd dan in Hapkido, and also studies Qi Gong and Tai Chi.
Grand Master Susan Mix is a founder and instructor at The Enso Center for International Arts, a non-profit martial arts and community-building organization in Redmond, Washington. She teaches traditional Korean martial arts and is an 8th degree black belt in Hapkido and 6th degree black belt in Taekwondo. She also teaches Yang Style Tai Chi & Qi Gong.
Rachel Lovitt, a 4th degree black belt in Hapkido with over 25 years of experience in martial arts, is the owner of Mindful Movement and Living. As a certified personal trainer, mobility specialist, and Reiki practitioner, she helps clients embody their sacred mind-body connection, fostering awareness, strength, and balance.
Galina Lemke has been practicing martial arts at Enso Center since 2002. She has a first degree black belt in Aikido, a 3rd degree black belt in Taekwondo, and a 5th degree black belt in Hapkido. She has also been practicing Tai Chi for many years. She is currently one of the instructors for Enso Center's Adaptive Hapkido Program, a martial arts class for adults with developmental disabilities.
Jennifer Hagander-Luanava has been practicing Hapkido for 13 years and is a second degree black belt. She teaches Women's Safety courses at Enso Center and in her local community.
Meghan is a 2nd degree black belt, and has been practicing Hapkido for 12 years. She is an assistant instructor at Enso Center.
Coni is a 2nd degree black belt in Hapkido and has been studying martial arts for 12 years. She is an assistant instructor at Enso Center.
